Wall Framing - Day One

We started framing the walls today. It really gives out a concrete feel of the room sizes.

This wall is framed so that we can install a sliding door in the washroom.
Spacers were located so that we can run electrical cabling to the ceiling.
The wall was also extended to enclose the new section of attic.
A hole was cut into the attic space so that the exhaust fan vent can be concealed in the new attic space.
The two existing windows were also drywalled over.

Painting and Wall Planning

It was a busy non-working weekend, with a birthday party to attend. So, on Sunday we finished painting all the window trim and doors.
We also used a yellow lumber crayon and measured and traced out the walls on the floors and existing walls, so that we could figure out and fine tune where we wanted to locate everything.
We also measured up the existing stairwell into the basement that we are going to replace with one that leads directly into the addition.

Glasses

Here's Ben looking like Bono....and like Tom Cruise in 'Risky Business'...and me with my busted glasses--fixed with Q-tip stems!

Shingles and Tyvek

Yesterday the roofers came and slipped some shingles up on the roof. Then today, the grandfathers wrapped the house in Tyvek and began putting windows in.

Also, the tarpaper on the formerly-exterior wall was removed to expose the old-school rough lumber walls.
And the plumbing stack was extended.
Ben and his hammer (they are inseperable).
And as we're going to be removing this interior wall, Tracy removed the frame so she could attach a baby gate she's planning to construct soon.
More old-school lath and plaster and lumber.

Patchwork

The open area of wall below the roof trusses is being filled in using the bits of wall panels that are left over. They are measured and trimed and foamed into place, with 2x6 s in between.

Roof Sheathing

We now have something to keep (most) of the rain out. Over a couple days on the long weekend, we were able to sheath the roof. First we had to build the ladder truss to hang the eaves out, then we began to trim and put up the plywood sheathing. We did half one day, half the next.

Our tree at the peak, for luck.
We tarpped the roof afterwards, in case of rain.
Me, happy to have put my brand new orange super-hammer to use.
The Duke, walking the fine line of the roof, and looking like Jesus.
And Stoney-man, the slacker, was asleep as usual. (This was his pose for the whole day!)

Roof Trusses up!

We managed to get a boom truck and a lot of friends and family over and we got the trusses up on a couple hours. We can really see how much space we will be having in the addition. We put up sissor trusses, so the ceiling will be high.
